Finished University Work!

I handed both my projects in today. Including the 2100 Project i have been posting about. It turned out okay! Got my Matte Paintings printed out professionally and they looked pretty snazzy!

I had to make some modifications to one of my previous videos. If i had more time i could have added more content. I would have loved to have animated the Magpie more than just waving and putting a poncho on.

The project was to make a documentary about Newcastle in 2100. My idea stemmed from the idea of the lack of natural resources, causing a population depletion. For years people looted, stole, hoarded and mankind slowly became more scarce as the food did. The world is now on the road to recovery and small settlements have popped up all over the UK, the biggest of these is Castle, built on the ruins of Newcastle. It features a surrounding wall that keeps out unwanted guests from entering the community. Everyone helps out, and everyone wheres a trademark poncho.
The Documentary is centered around Marvin, who has just been granted asylum into the city. The crew follow his journey from entering the gates, to his living quarters, to how he will inevitably contribute to this extended network of Castle-dwellers.

The infographics act as an Orientation that entrants will be shown, to introduce them to procedures that Castle has and how the city operates. Ive also got some trendy looking opening titles. These all are presented as archive footage that is the property of the city.

Hope you like it! and I'll let you know how i do.

What will the world look like in 2100?...

Last year, our course went out with some out of the box voice recorders and recorded the general publics thoughts on a certain subject. We asked them what they thought their city would look like in 100 years time. This would be the starting point of our work to come.

We all got varied answers. From some very specific scientific answers, to rooftop trees, to bio-domes. I got some guy thinking that Blair was still the Prime Minister and a super christian who didn't care because he would be saved by then. But overall a very optimistic bunch those Geordies.

It didn't help that i was wearing a Back To The Future t-shirt. I got a lot of flying cars...

Here is my final animation. Created on a graphics tablet and Pencil, a bit of freeware you can get here, but it worked okay if you know how to work past the bugs. Enjoy!

Pixarpedia Competition Update...

Just letting everyone know about my Pixarpedia entree. DK let everyone who entered know on the 4th of January that the shortlist of 10 have been sent to Pixar ready to be judged by the creative team behind UP, and we all can expect the winners to be posted on their website in the next week or so.

You can take a look at my animation here, feel free to leave comments or take a look if you haven't already. Or take a look at the other entrants here.

Again, any update I'll let you know, not long now hopefully!

Hewitt and Walker Update

Im working on some ultra top secret packaging for the Hewitt and Walker Directors Cut. The brief was to create some simple designed package that will be easy to put together, cheep to print (design ideally has to fit on an SRA3 sheet to cut costs) but can still hold the disk and any additional material together. I've come up with a design that fits pretty well without looking like an AOL free trial disk you used to get when the internet was young.

So i thought i would include a poster that is included with it! I love working on the grindhouse style of design, you have a specific design language that fits your film, a certain style of typography and colour scheme. It must be the safetynet of working with these strict parameters. Either way here it is!

If you want a copy of the latest Directors Cut of Hewitt and Walker let me know and ill make sure i put you on the mailing list! Included in the new copy will be; The film, informative DVD booklet and 4 limited edition art cards for each film featured in the Hewitt and Walker History of Cinema.
